The public is invited to attend the “Supper’d at Concord Venue” to enjoy a delicious meal, live jazz, art exhibit, and a history presentation on “The Harlem Renaissance and the Supper Club.” The event, a celebration of Black History Month, will be held at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 500 LaSalle St. Admission fee is $45.
Tickets may be purchased at https://www.concordquarters.com/specialevents or by calling 601-493-3018.
The event is hosted by Debbie Cosey, co-owner of Concord Quarters, who said this traditional Black dinner was started in Harlem in New York.
She explained the Harlem Renaissance was a transformative period in African American culture; it was a movement that was known as the New Negro Movement during the 1920s and 1930s. “It was a spiritual coming of age for Black Americans,” she said, adding it was a beautiful time for Black musicians and Black-owned establishments.
In those days, Blacks were not allowed to eat at white-owned establishments. Cosey said the Supper Club emerged when Black-owned businesses provided Black musicians with venues and eateries as places for them to eat and relax.
“It’s important for Natchez to understand this history and why we do the things we do,” Cosey said. “We hear about the Supper Club and often don’t know where it originated. I want to shed some light on this history, which I believe is significant to Black history.”
Supper Club dinners have been a part of Cosey’s family for many years. In the 1950s, her mother hosted the dinners at her establishment, The Green Light Café on St. Catherine Street, she said. Her mother also hosted the dinners for churches and other groups at her home.
