Join us at 5:30 pm for a hospitality social followed by a bit of history beginning at 6:00 pm.
Betty Lou Eidt Hicks, Natchez native and long time St. Mary Basilica member, tour guide, volunteer, and source of local history, will speak about William Henry Elder, Bishop of Natchez (when the diocese comprised the entire state of Mississippi) and Wartime Leadership during the Civil War. She will discuss his legacy of commitment to religious freedom, authority to regulate church services, ministry to soldiers and civilians, and defiance of Federal orders for federal prayers in church services.
