Julyteenth: When Freedom Came to Natchez

Natchez National Historical Park is taking advantage of a newly acquired facility at the Forks of the Road site to stage the park’s “Freedom 250” signature event. The former Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Devereux Drive is now owned by the National Park Service and has been renamed “Freedom Hall.”
At 2:30 pm , Episcopal Bishop Dorothy Sanders Wells will lead a wreath laying on the Liberty Road side of Forks of the Road , then at 3:00 pm park historian Jeff Mansell will present a program entitled “Julyteenth: When Freedom Came to Natchez” inside of Freedom Hall. Park superintendent Kathleen Bond will provide a welcome. Participating clergy include Rev. Clifton Marvel from the Greater Macedonia Baptist Church; Rt. Rev. Dorothy Sanders Wells from the Episcopal Diocese of Mississippi; and Rev. Chase Caldwell, associate pastor at First Presbyterian Church, who will provide music. Also participating will be Jamal McCullen and some of his students.
Following the event, the Natchez Historical Society will provide refreshment
